I make art so I can think

I read this somewhere: Write to think, not think to write. I didn’t think much of it but last night, it made perfect sense to me.

I think I feel a lot of things and I realized how it’s only when I create something that I am able to make sense of what those feelings and thoughts are.

Sometimes, I create something and get surprised with the output and I wonder if it really was me who created that. Sometimes I feel there is another being inside of me and its only way of communicating with me and the world is through the art that I create or the art that it forces me to create.

And maybe that’s true or maybe it’s not, but it seems to me we only discover ourselves when we create something.

A friend once asked me about my creative process. Do I think about the meaning of my art first before actually creating it? My reply was that most of the time, I only fully understand the meaning of what I do while I’m doing it or when I’m finished with it.

It is during the process of art making that I discover what I want to say. It is then that I am able to think and process my thoughts, experiences, and feelings, and then translate them into art.
